HMAS Stirling presents the inaugural 'Austal Tiger Snake Classic' a unique and exclusive standard distance triathlon hosted on picturesque Garden Island, surrounded by the blue waters of Cockburn Sound. Offering two 20km laps of road, completely closed to traffic and a super smooth surface, this is the perfect event to start your race season off with a PB.
Fully supported by Triathlon WA, this long awaited event caters for all abilities from first timers to professional triathletes and will offer cash prizes for the top finishers and plaques/trophies for age group winners.
The 1.5km swim course (wetsuit essential!) will be held within the sheltered waters of Careening Bay and the Small Boat Harbour, with excellent spectator viewing from the surrounding breakwater, as you swim past submarine support vessels, tugs and other support craft.
On exiting T1, the 40km bike course takes you out onto the main service road on the island and south over the high level bridge and onto the causeway, visible from Rockingham foreshore. After a smooth 180 degree turn, you have another 10km in the bars, all the way to the northern part of the island before the next turn. With unparalleled views of Cockburn Sound and Point Peron, long rolling roads dissecting the unspoilt dune bushland, the prospect of a bike PB will keep you on the rivet. .
Once through T2, the 10km run leg takes you through the wharf precinct and past the Navy’s frigates and submarines, before heading out parallel to the bike course to the north, finally reversing back to the finish line at the sports pavilion and the main oval.
Cool down, enjoy some post-race refreshment and live music provided by the Navy Band, and support your fellow triathletes.
The Austal Tiger Snake Classic aims to become the premier standard distance triathlon in WA, as well as raise funds for the Navy’s official charity “Keeping Watch”, supporting serving and former Navy personnel and their families in need.
